All generic domain extensions and some country-code ones support a security lock functionality whose purpose is to stop unwanted transfers of active domain names. Lots of domain registry operators that manage country-code TLDs that don’t support this feature are in the process of introducing it for greater security and for the convenience of the domain registrants. A domain can be transferred only if it is unlocked and only a person who has access to the account with the current domain name registrar can achieve that. New domain names are registered with the lock feature enabled intentionally, so as to stop any unsanctioned transfer attempts. The lock option is among the security measures for controlling the transfer of existing domain names between domain name registrars that have been adopted over the years.
